Univ. Prof. DI Dr. Ardeshir MAHDAVI
Director
Department of Building Physics and Building Ecology
Vienna University of Technology
Professor Dr. A. Mahdavi is the director of the Department of Building Physics and Building Ecology at the Vienna University of Technology in Austria. His research activities cover a wide spectrum of work in building science, including building physics, computational building performance simulation, building automation, and sustainable architectural design. He is a frequent keynote speaker at international scientific conferences and has authored over 300 publications in scientific conference proceedings and journals. In the last two years (2006, 2007), Professor Mahdavi has been consecutively awarded the "Austrian Building Award" in the research projects category.
MSc PhD DSc FRICS Peter BARRETT
Professor Peter Barrett, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, University of Salford, UK and President of the CIB (Conseil International du Batiment)
Professor Barrett has been Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies since 2001 with responsibility for all research across the University. Peter is President of the UN-established International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) [http://www.cibworld.nl]] involving 2000 experts in 60 countries. He is a past Director of Salford's top rated, 6* Research Institute for the Built and Human Environment [www.buhu.salford.ac.uk] and is currently Chairman of the £5M EPSRC funded, Salford Centre for Research and Innovation [www.scri.salford.ac.uk].
Peter has produced over one hundred and seventy single volume publications, refereed papers and reports, and has made over one hundred and ten presentations in around sixteen countries. Professor Barrett has undertaken a wide range of research, typified by a management focus around real world problems using a range of hard and soft research methods. He is currently focusing on the theme of Revaluing Construction [www.cibworld.nl/revaluingconstruction] with a particular interest in the links between Senses, Brain and Spaces [www.rgc.salford.ac.uk/peterbarrett/m/?s=10].
Dr. Erastos FILOS
Head of Sector “Intelligent Manufacturing Systems”
Information Society & Media Directorate-General
European Commission
Erastos Filos is co-ordinating research activities in “intelligent manufacturing” within the Information Society and Media Directorate-General of the European Commission. In this activity he is also responsible for the European Secretariat of the Intelligent Manufac¬turing Systems (IMS) initiative, a global international collaborative R&D pro¬gramme involving industrially led R&D consortia from Japan, Korea, the United States, Switzerland and the European Union (including Norway).
He was born in Athens, Greece. After obtaining his MSc in Physics from Hamburg University, Germany, he worked as Researcher at the High-Energy Physics Lab (DESY) in Hamburg. He holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Konstanz University, Germany. After eight years of university research he started his industry career as Project Manager at Perkin Elmer Corporation and then as Leader of the Electronics Design team at Bosch Telecom in Heidelberg, Germany.
After 15 years of activity in university and industry he joined the European Commission’s research programme ESPRIT (European Strategic Programme in Information Technologies) in 1993 as Scientific Officer, in the domain “Computer-integrated Manufacturing and Engineering”. The portfolio of projects under his supervision addressed issues such as robotics, concurrent engineering and product and process data modelling. In the successor programme IST (Information Society Technologies), Mr Filos became responsible for R&D strategy in the Programme's domains “New Methods of Work and Electronic Commerce” and “Components and Systems”.
Mr Filos is author of a large number of research articles and contributor to three books.
