Best PhD-Paper Award ECPPM 2008 / 2010

Result of the contest

The following students have been selected by the ECPPM 2008 Awards Council:

  • 1> Anastasiya Yurchyshyna - "Towards an ontology-based approach for formalising expert knowledge in the conformity-checking model in construction";
  • 2> Chin Pang Cheng - "A Distributed Portal-Based Platform for Construction Supply Chain Interoperability";
  • 3> Annie Guerriero - "A trust-based dashboard to manage building construction activity";
  • 4> Robert Larsson - "Erection of in-situ cast concrete frameworks – model development and simulation of construction activities";
  • 4> Franck Taillandier - "A method for maintenance plan arbitration in buildings facilities management";
  • 6> Szucheng Chien - "User interfaces for building systems control: from requirements to prototype".

The Best Student Paper Award

The best combination of paper and live presentation at the ECCPM conference in September 2008 will be rewarded. Its author will be invited to the next ECPPM Conference to be held in Cork 2010, so as to be able to present the outcomes and achievements of his PhD.


Eligibility

  • The Best Student Paper award is given to the author of the best paper presented at ECPPM written solely or primarily by a student who is a full or part-time undergraduate, Masters, or Ph.D Student and chooses to participate in the "Student Paper Contest".
  • For a paper to qualify for the Best Student Paper award, a student must be the lead author.
  • All full papers with a student as the first author that are accepted for presentation are eligible to participate in the competition.

 

Evaluation Criteria

In the evaluation process of the paper, the following criteria are considered:

  • Clarity and Originality;
  • Potential impact;
  • Publication of significant and profound new and non-obvious research concept,
  • An approach in a subject area which relates to Information Technology in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction, but which has broader impact across other aspects of Computer Science and Civil Engineering;
  • Patents, starting a company based on a fundamental contribution.

 

The Presentations will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Entertaining presentation;
  • Ability to provide with a clear and synthetic view on RTD work in a 20mn presentation;
  • Ease in reply to the questions.

Recipient selection is administered by the EAPPM Steering Committee through the ECPPM 2008 Awards Council which is composed of six experts from industry and academia:

  • Raimar Scherer (President EAPPM)
  • Claude Dumoulin (Bouygues TP, France)
  • Marta Fernandez (ARUP, UK)
  • Matti Hannus (VTT Research Center, Espoo, Finland)
  • Alain Zarli (CSTB, France and Chair ECPPM 2008)
  • Professor Karsten Menzel (University College Cork, and Chair EAPPM 2010)

Prize items include

  • a certificate,
  • honorarium payable in 2010 and covering the expenses for participation in the ECPPM 2010 (including three nights accommodation in Cork - max. Euro 500- and Conference Fees)
